The Truth About Traveling with Groupon

While most of people lay in their bed and scroll through Instagram at night, I scroll through Groupon Getaways.

If you have never heard of it before you finish this post you need to stop, download the app, and go to the Getaways tab for at least two minutes…I’ll wait.

They all look too good to be true down they? Well they are all real.

Last April I had the pleasure of traveling with Groupon to Bali. I have to be honest, I was genuinely waiting for something to go wrong, the entire two weeks of our trip but, spoiler alert, nothing did.

I was in a really bad mood one night, so I went to scroll through Groupon to make myself feel better. I came across a 11 day trip to Bali from Los Angeles for $1200. This included a flight from L.A. to Denpasar, Bali, transportation from the airport to our hotel, 5 nights in a 4 star hotel in Seminyak, transportation from Seminyak to Ubud, 5 night stay in another gorgeous hotel in Ubud, and then transportation back Denpasar to catch our plane.

Flights alone from L.A. to Bali are over $1200.

So you can imagine that when I booked my flight and showed up to the airport I was half expecting them to laugh in my face and say “GOTCHA!”,! and send my cousin and I packing back to Florida. But they didn’t. The woman behind the desk of China Air handed us our boarding passes with a smile and we headed to the gate.

Landing in Denpasar we were greeted by the nicest Balinese man wearing a round hat and a colorful sarong holding a paper with my name on it, we hopped in a very clean van and he checked us into the Seminyak Hotel.

Our room overlooked the pool which was surrounded by comfortable beds draped in canvas and pillows. There was also a swim up bar which is always right up my alley. The hotel was nestled down a quiet road where you could hear nothing but birds chirping and it was so peaceful! We were minutes away from the beach and surrounded by amazing restaurants and shops.

On our way to Ubud our driver took us the long way through the lush rain forrest and showed us all the sights to see from the beaches to the forrest.

Our hotel in Ubud was the quaintest little villa ever! We were on the ground floor and our front door opened up into the courtyard which had a gorgeous waterfall to lull you to sleep. We were walking distance to the center of town and the Monkey Forest. Our concierge was willing to drive us to different restaurants, take us to famous waterfalls, and show us around Ubud.

Our driver showed up at the perfect time to get us to the airport on time.

From take off to landing at LAX, Groupon filled every gap and took care of every detail. I cannot wait to book my next Groupon Getaway.
