How I Visited Five Countries Without Ever Leaving Orlando

There's something magical about traveling somewhere new.

But this summer, I realized something I wasn't expecting.

Sometimes, the best travel experiences happen right in your own backyard.

Last week, I joined BOCA's Women in Wine Dinner, and for one evening, I visited five different countries without ever leaving Winter Park.

No passport.

No TSA.

No jet lag.

Just one beautifully set table surrounded by great people who all shared one thing in common: a love of incredible food and wine.

From the moment we walked into the Magnolia Room with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc in hand, it felt like we'd stepped into our own little world. One long farmhouse table meant strangers quickly became dinner companions, and by the end of the evening, it felt less like dining out and more like sharing a meal with friends.

What made the evening so special wasn't just the menu.

It was the intention behind it.

Executive Chef Caitlin Brady created each course as a tribute to pioneering women chefs who changed the culinary world—women who fought for recognition in an industry that has long been dominated by men. Hearing the story behind each dish made every course feel personal, thoughtful, and meaningful.

And then there was the gnocchetta.

Now, I know I’ve never met a bowl of pasta I don’t like, and this dish was no exception. I would have happily eaten an entire bowl of it, or nine. The sauce was incredible, the pasta was packed with flavor, and it was one of those dishes you immediately start thinking about before you've even finished the last bite.

Dessert was a lemon torte that somehow managed to be just as memorable.

One of my favorite moments of the evening wasn't even on the menu.

It was convincing my friend Stephanie to eat a prawn the traditional Spanish way. Let's just say...it involved being a little more adventurous than she expected, and it gave us one of those laughs we'll probably still be talking about years from now.

Those are the moments I travel for.

Not just beautiful places.

Shared experiences.

Unexpected conversations.

Trying something I'd never order on my own.

Laughing with friends over dinner.

Those memories stay with you long after the last course is served.

As someone who honestly avoids traveling during peak summer because of the crowds and the prices, this dinner reminded me that adventure doesn't always require a plane ticket.

Sometimes it's about saying yes to something happening twenty minutes from home.

Sometimes it's about slowing down long enough to appreciate the incredible experiences already happening in your own city.

BOCA created something that felt elegant without being intimidating, intimate without being exclusive, and thoughtful in every detail. It's no surprise the dinner sold out, and I'm genuinely excited they're considering making these events seasonal.

Because if this summer taught me anything...

It's that you don't always have to leave home to discover somewhere new.

Sometimes all you need is a reservation.
